Desktop of the Day: Fancy Diamonds

I know I just featured wallpapers by Veer last week, but they did their monthly update yesterday and this diamond wallpaper is just too good:

Just because it’s hot outside doesn’t mean you can’t ice your desktop up.

Desktop of the Day: Melon Mountain

Keeping up the Japanese inspired cartoony look, this wallpaper by Headvoid illustrates Japan’s love of the square watermelon, topped off by a bonzai tree:

Don’t ask me what it all means, only the artist knows for sure.

Desktop of the Day: False Alarm

It was an almost impossible task to choose a single wallpaper from David Lanham to feature first. Eventually, I went with False Alarm:

David Lanham's False Alarm Wallpaper

David Lanham is incredibly talented artist with a very distinct style, and is unafraid to show it. All of the art on his website is viewable at high resolutions, a welcome change from the norm. Expect to see more as I explore his site further.

Desktop of the Day: Sayagata Asaghi

Mikio Inose has taken a traditional japanese print and given it a wonderful depth, like a maze without the mystery, and called it Sayagata Asaghi:

Sayagata Asaghi

I only hope I’ve gotten the name right, I just went with my first instinct.

(Mikio Inose’s site is built in Flash, and as such i cannot provide a direct link. Still, the Wallpaper Link is on the front page, you can’t miss it.)

Desktop of the Day: Liqachu Colossus Compilation

I couldn’t resist featuring another wallpaper from Scott Prindle, this one a collaboration with two other artists, James Wignall and Tab Turnmire:

Loving this one, especially the little bird sitting on the rainbow-branch centerpiece.

My Gang Icons

I’ve been sick of the Windows XP user pictures since I installed the OS five years ago—after debating creating my own, I usually just go with the Chess Piece. Thankfully, Nenad Grujicic has put together a cute user icon package of Fisher Price-ish characters:

My Gang Icons

Honestly, I downloaded it for the ninja.

(Even though these icons were made with KDE in mind, they can be used with Windows or OS X. Just go to your user accounts and browse to the icon you want to use.)

PEZ Memory Sticks

PEZ Memory Stick

If you’re a candy computer junkie, chances are you’ve already modded your memory stick into a PEZ Container—but if this thought’s never crossed your mind, MetkuMods has posted a tutorial to help you on your way. As you can probably imagine, it’s a relatively simple process, just pop the plastic of the memory stick, slide it into the PEZ, cut it, and presto!

Desktop of the Day: Livid Memoirs of Yesteryear

Today’s wallpaper comes from Scott Prindle, and it’s a subtle offset beauty. Its ample empty space makes it great for the people who live on their desktop—and what a name it has!

White Box PC-Bot 914

In keeping with the Star Wars theme, this new computer case offered by White Box Robotics bears an ever-so-slight resemblance to my favourite SW character, R2D2:

White Box Robotics 914 Computer Case

It isn’t just a send-up either, this is a functioning robot complete with movement, vision-based navigation and object recognition. It’ll also talk and listen to you, just like the real R2D2.

I remain skeptical to the usefulness and practicality of this case, the site is very sparse with details and the what information does exist is written with a particular, erm, flourish. Prices starting at $1,119 US, not yet released.

Official Star Wars Wallpapers

If you’re more of a straight shooter that just so happens to enjoy the Star Wars saga, perhaps a trip to the official site is more to your tastes. There’s an assortment of character shots, as well as a scene from the movie’s climax:

The wallpapers are ensnared in a Flash site, so the sitepath to them: Downloads> Wallpapers.

Star Wars Last Supper

Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith opens today, and no doubt the Star Wars faithful are swarming the theathers in droves. And what religious event is complete without an accompanying wallpaper? Giant Mag steps up the zealotry with the SW cast sharing one Last Supper:

Veer Personality Portraits

It’s been over a year since I last checked Veer’s selection of wallpapers, and they’ve been very productive with their time. There’s dozens of new wallpapers, including a very original set of portraits from their design team. This is just one of the six, entitled Screenwriter Mom:

All of the portraits are assembled from Veer’s catalog of stock images, making these wallpapers a nice blend of creativity and marketing.

M.I.A. Customized iPod shuffle

When I went to M.I.A.’s page to find out more about the show I’m going to on Saturday, the last thing I expected to see was this customized iPod shuffle straight from the girl herself:

M.I.A. Customized iPod shuffle

Sadly, this was the prize to a now expired contest—doesn’t stop it from being pretty much the coolest. And if you like it enough, what’s to stop you from doing it yourself? Get out those army men stencils!

Galang Galang!

BigPru’s New Phone

I thought I’d start off with my current wallpaper, a great photo by BigPru (member of the Flickr Wallpapers Group):

BigPru's New Phone

I was never a big fan of photographs as wallpapers, but now with Flickr, it’s easy to find photos for this express purpose. Watch out though, this particular wallpaper is best for people with uncluttered desktops—if not, you might lose your icons in the pavement.
